How do I setup my computer to do a one-time boot from my Keepod?

Note: Keepod-Certified Refurbished Computers are already set up to permanently boot from your Keepod

For Windows 7 or below:

  1. Make sure that that the computer is turned off.
  2. Plug the Keepod into the computer’s USB port.
  3. Turn the computer on.
  4. Wait for the first screen to pop up. For just a few seconds, the computer will tell you which key to press in order to reach the boot menu. Press that key.
  5. Choose from the “boot from USB” option.
  6. A menu will appear that allows you to either “Start Keepod” or access the settings by choosing “Settings.” If you do not make a selection within the first few seconds, Keepod will automatically start.

For Windows 8 or above:

  1. Make sure that that the computer is turned off.
  2. Plug the Keepod into the computer’s USB port.
  3. Turn the computer on.
  4. Open your settings and select the “Update & security” icon.
  5. Select “Recovery” on the left side. Under Advanced Startup on the right side, click “Restart now.”
  6. After your computer restarts, select “Use a device.” The USB will appear in the list.
  7. Click on the USB.
  8. A menu will appear that allows you to either “Start Keepod” or access the settings by choosing “Settings.” If you do not make a selection within the first few seconds, Keepod will automatically start.

If you can’t tell which model your Windows computer is:

In order to tell which model your Windows computer is, simply start the computer and read the text that first appears on your screen. If your computer screen reads “Windows 7” when you start the computer, your computer system is a Windows 7 model.

Mac

Note: Keepod does not boot on all Macbook models.

  1. Make sure that that the computer is turned off.
  2. Plug the Keepod into the computer’s USB port.
  3. Turn the computer on.
  4. Press and hold the "Option (alt)" key as soon the the white screen shows up.
  5. A list of drives will now appear. Select the USB drive, press enter, and follow the instructions.
  6. A menu will appear that allows you to either “Start Keepod” or access the settings by choosing “Settings.” If you do not make a selection within the first few seconds, Keepod will automatically start.
